A "Führungszeugnis," commonly known in English as a "Certificate of Good Conduct," is an official document issued by the German government. It's essentially a criminal record check, widely used in certain sectors for employment purposes. Employers in specific industries require this certificate as part of their personnel records.

Types of Führungszeugnis

  • Standard Certificate: Sufficient for most private employers. Note, employers demanding this certificate may be in conflict with the Federal Data Protection Act, especially if the information obtained is not directly relevant to the job.

  • Extended Certificate: Contains more detailed information, including minor convictions. It's specifically required for positions involving contact with children and youth.
